Recently while working on a NSF Grant funded project,
looking at systems destroyed by natural disaster and the impact tragedies like
earthquakes and tornadoes have on the environment, I found myself thinking
about just how important research is. You see, numbers by themselves…number
hurt, wind speed, dollars of damage…are only facts. They don’t yield solutions
that help us to establish strategies and procedures that we can use in future
disaster response efforts…that takes research to gather all the facts and then analysis
that finds the trends, the causes, and the threats which provide the tools we
need for the future.
Research counts!
